John Rogers, Director of Instruction

JohnJohn Rogers was born in Columbus, Ohio and split time growing up in Newport News, Virginia and White Plains, Maryland. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from James Madison University (Bachelors Degree, Political Science with a minor in Economics) in 1993. Since 1994 he has been living in the western and northern regions of Virginia where he is a golf professional. He became a full-time Teaching Pro in 2001 at Lakeview Golf Club, and started writing his column, Golf Things Considered, in 2004.

In more than 15 seasons of golf instruction, now as Director of Instruction at Lakeview, John has given over 11,000 golf lessons to over 1,700 clients. His motivation is to help people to get more enjoyment out of their golf games (and therefore their lives) by playing the game better. The age range of his clients so far is 3 to 85 years old; he has worked with complete beginners and touring professionals; he has taught golf to disabled persons as well as amazingly gifted athletes. He continues to work with anyone who arrives at the driving range with a desire to play golf.

John has been providing instruction for the Bridgewater College team since 1999. In 2002 he launched a junior program called The Tournament Players' Series which prepares young golfers for competition. In 2005 he created a golf fitness program, Fit to a Tee, which he offers at Rockingham Memorial Hospital Wellness Center during the winter.
