History
“The principle ingredient of our success was the patronage of the golfing public – the ones for whom Lakeview was built,“ explained Joe Bennington, former Board Member of Lakeview Golf Club in an article published in the Daily News-Record in 1975. And today, over 35 years later, customer service for our patrons remains our primary focus.
Since April 26, 1964 when Lakeview opened with nine holes for public play, golf in the area has grown at a tremendous pace and Lakeview has established itself as the premier public golf facility in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Two additional nine-hole courses were constructed in 1967 and 1976 and a fourth nine-hole course was built in 2002 to distinguish Lakeview among others in the region as one of the few 36-hole golf courses. In 2010, Lakeview Golf Club was privileged to become a founding member of the Virginia Golf Trail.
Lakeview Golf Club thanks its patrons who call Lakeview "home" and extends a warm invitation to all who seek a great setting to enjoy the game of golf.
We invite you to an entertaining read, Praising Lakeview: A Scenic Best-Buy in the Shenandoah Valley (September 2005) by Lakeview's Director of Instruction, John Rogers. Since its publish date in '05, Lakeview has continued to grow through forward-thinking initiatives implemented by PGA Head Professional, Mike Gooden. Yet Lakeview's appeal remains the same - a solid, enjoyable golfing experience, surrounded by friendly people, all at a reasonable cost. |
